Dr Hwee Sin Chong is both the Executive Director of the Queensland Medical Rural Service and acting Executive Director of Medical Services for the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service.  She is responsible for medical professionalism; the recruitment and performance of doctors, and strategic medical workforce issues for a public health service that has one larger regional hospital (450 beds) and 15 rural hospitals. Her Queensland wide responsibilities include the operations of medical vocational training in basic and advanced general medicine, intensive care medicine, general paediatric medicine, and rural generalist medicine.  She leads the development of rural generalist medicine for Queensland – these are doctors that have a wide range of primary and secondary health care skills most suited for rural hospitals and communities. She completed her medical degree in Otago, New Zealand, then specialist training in medical administration in Queensland, Australia. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA), and has completed both a Master in International Public Health, and a Master in Health Management (University of New South Wales).
