Bertrand Levrat

Bertrand Levrat is the Director-General of the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), the largest university hospital in Switzerland.

A barrister by training, Mr. Levrat started his career on humanitarian assignments with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He then served as ICRC’s representative at the United Nations in New York.

After returning to Switzerland, he became Deputy Director of the Geneva state social services before becoming Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice Général, which is in charge of social welfare and asylum seekers in Geneva.

In addition to his current position, he serves as President of the University Medicine Association (UNIMED) and is a board member of several foundations focusing on health and medical research as well as innovative approaches and technologies in healthcare.

Mr. Levrat joined the IHF Governing Council in April 2021.
