Training & Education

MDR-TB PROJECT

With financial support from Eli Lilly, we have developed an MDR-TB and TB training manual/toolkit for hospital and health facility managers, the desired outcomes of which are to build:

  • better informed health facility managers in leadership, strategic and operational planning and budgeting within settings treating MDR-TB and TB;
  • improved management/leadership, strategic and operational planning and budgeting skills;
  • Better understanding of management/ leadership financial priorities/realities of TB control and care in and between national and international health facilities.

The manual was field tested through training workshops in South Africa (2006); India (2008) China (2009); Brazil (2010) and Tunisia (2011).

Interprofessional training workshops, focusing on infection control on TB for health care worker safety, were also run in collaboration with other member organizations of the Eli Lilly MDR-TB Partnership, namely the World Medical Association (WMA), the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The training course outcomes included:

  • Learning infection control policies and measures
  • Strengthening awareness of importance and priority on infection control and health care
  • workers’ safety
  • Identification of good practices and false practices
  • Joint recommendations for facilities and health workers next step for improvement

The inter-professional workshops were held in South Africa (2007); Brazil (2009), Republic of Benin (2010) and China (2011).
