The Hospital Authority (HA) is a statutory body established in 1990 under the Hospital Authority Ordinance . Since December 1991, the Hospital Authority has been responsible for the management of public hospitals and related medical services in Hong Kong, and has been responsible to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government through the Secretary for Medical and Health Services. The Medical and Health Bureau is responsible for formulating medical policies and monitoring the management of the Hospital Authority Work.

At present, the HA has jurisdiction over 43 public hospitals and medical institutions , 49 specialist outpatient clinics and 74 general outpatient clinics . As of March 31, 2022, the Hospital Authority has provided a total of more than 30,000 hospital beds and employs about 90,000 people.
