Severance Hospital, founded in 1885 as Gwanghyewon (Chejungwon), Korea’s first Western-style medical institution, has been at the forefront of advancing modern medicine in Korea for over 140 years. As part of the Yonsei University Health System, Severance Hospital is a tertiary hospital that integrates excellence in clinical care, research, and education, contributing to the advancements in global health and medical progress.
With approximately 2,200 beds, Severance Hospital provides care to around 15,000 outpatients daily and welcomes over 60,000 international patients each year. In 2023, the hospital became the first in Korea to introduce Carbon Ion Therapy, establishing a new paradigm in cancer treatment, and the first in the world to surpass 40,000 robotic surgeries, continuing to pioneer breakthroughs in cutting-edge medicine
Severance has ranked first for 14 consecutive years in the National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI) for hospitals, reflecting its steadfast commitment to the quality of medical services and patient-centered excellence. In 2022, it received the IHF Dr. Kwang Tae Kim Grand Hospital Award (Gold Winner) in recognition of its continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation in healthcare.
