Designing the hospital of the future

Designing the hospital of the future

A primary healthcare oriented health system is the cornerstone for achieving universal healthcare (UHC) and it requires the involvement of all stakeholders to reimagine the role of hospitals and how they will operate in this new landscape. The IHF works very closely with international partners, including the WHO, to advance this discussion. Collaborative activities so far include:

  • World Health Assembly 2023: joint statement with WONCA and others on PHC and UHC.
  • WHO Headquarters (Geneva, Switzerland): joint webinar on 20 June on innovation
  • WHO/EURO: participation in meetings and panel discussions in April 2022 and June 2023 (regional meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan) to share the global voice of hospitals.

Together, we are creating a shared vision of the role of hospitals in health and social care systems, and the community: integrated, patient-centred, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable service delivery. At the IHF and Geneva Sustainability Centre, we are also prioritizing leadership competencies, sustainability and resilience, with hospitals acting as climate leaders in the community.
