IHF at WHO SEARO: 76th regional committee meeting

The 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia (SEARO) took place from 30 October to 2 November in New Delhi, India.

Pritindira Sachdeva, Regional Quality Head of Apollo Hospitals Group (India) – a premier associate IHF member represented the IHF at the meeting. 

The South-East Asian Region comprises 11 countries, which together account for over a quarter of the world’s population. This region suffers from a significant burden of disease. 

The highlight of the meeting was the selection of Ms Saima Wazed as the next Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia Region. The nomination will be presented to the WHO Executive Board in January 2024, and she will assume the role on 1 February 2024. 

One of the key events of the meeting was a high-level ministerial roundtable where member states signed the Delhi Declaration for Strengthening Primary Health Care. The declaration aims to strengthen primary healthcare as a means to achieve universal health coverage (UHC).
