Representing the GSC at the 2025 Global Conference on Climate and Health
Dr Graccho Alvim Neto, Vice-Preseident of the Federação Brasileira de Hospitais – FBH, represented the GSC at the 2025 Global Conference on Climate and Health, which took place in Brasilia, Brazil 29-31 July 2025.
Co-organized by the Government of Brazil, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Panamerican Health Organization (PAHO), and the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), this was the fifth edition of the conference that focuses on the intersection of climate change and health on a global stage. It also served as the annual in-person event of ATACH, which is an alliance of 97 countries and territories committed to health sector climate adaptation and mitigation.
The conference was organized around two cross-cutting priorities:
- Health equity and climate justice; and
- Leadership and governance.
These guided the conference’s major outputs, which focused on preparations for the upcoming COP30 meeting in Bélem, November 2025:
- promoting health as a core pillar of climate action;
- development of a draft Bélem Health Action Plan draft; and
- articulation of countries’ responsibilities and commitments under ATACH to support the Bélem Health Action Plan.
Dr Graccho Alvim Neto will also be attending COP30 in Bélem this November and immediately reporting back at the World Hospital Congress, feeding into the Congress’ track 3, which focuses on low carbon and resilient healthcare.
