In February 2025, the learning team at the Geneva Sustainability Centre delivered capacity strengthening workshops and conference presentations to Indian healthcare executives at a series of events in New Delhi, India.

Strengthening capacity to navigate Net Zero

Kickstarting the series of learning activities, Tom Dakin and Aditi Jayaram delivered a mini sustainability masterclass alongside Karan Thakur, Vice President – Sustainability, ESG and Public Affairs at Apollo Hospitals. The masterclass participants included members of the IHF Governing Council as well as executives from hospitals in India. The session’s learning objectives supported the goal to better understand sustainability as a leadership competency:

• Introducing key concepts around climate change and understanding the impact of the healthcare sector.
• Gaining knowledge about the health, social, and financial co-benefits associated with sustainable practices in healthcare​.
• Identifying some areas of action to start the sustainable healthcare journey.

Thanks to the Carbon Emissions Learning Lab (CELL), the group explored the role of healthcare leaders to act for their communities, for a healthier planet and healthier people.

Transforming healthcare with IT

Apollo Hospitals Group convened the Transforming Healthcare with IT 2025 conference to facilitate a discussion with global health leaders on the real impact of digital health in transforming healthcare systems. From AI-driven innovations to electronic health records and health information exchange, the conference explored how technology is reshaping patient care, making it more accessible and efficient worldwide.

Aditi Jayaram joined the panel in the session on “Making Geography History: Global Digital Health”. Together with leading experts, the discussion explored the transformative power of digital health in bridging global healthcare gaps, covering topics from technology-enabled remote healthcare in rural India to global health sustainability and AI-driven paediatric cancer networks. With innovation at its core, the session reinforced how digital health is redefining accessibility and shaping the future of healthcare worldwide.

Aditi’s presentation “Healthcare sustainability: Driving Net-Zero strategies for global impact” included data from the Sustainability Accelerator Tool (SAT) on the current sustainability maturity of hospitals worldwide, showcasing the tool as an example of the impactful innovations shaping the future of global health. The key takeaways from the data showed that procurement changes can be some of the hardest to make, but by getting started, engaging the workforce, and included all aspects of healthcare delivery (such as clinical care and operational services), progress can be made – and demonstrated using the SAT.

International dialogues for healthcare operations and patient experience

Apollo Hospitals Group also organized the 12th International Patient Safety Conference, which featured the first HOPE (Healthcare Operations & Patient Experience) Conference.

Addressing the HOPE delegates, Aditi presented “Sustainable healthcare operations: Greening the supply chain” while Tom presented in a panel at the International Patient Safety Conference: “Leading the charge for a greener healthcare future: Practices and innovative strategies to reduce emissions”.

In both session, the team shared data from the SAT, as well as good practice case studies from hospitals tackling their supply chain to reduce their carbon footprint. As key takeaways and action points, they promoted collaboration with suppliers to raise awareness, inform, and engage them in working towards carbon reduction.
