Swiss health administration delegation study visit to Portugal
A core pillar of the IHF network is the exchange of knowledge to advance leadership competencies in healthcare delivery. In this spirit, the IHF facilitated a study visit for hospital administration leaders from Geneva, Switzerland, to explore the Portuguese healthcare system.
On 21 March, a delegation led by Pierre Maudet (State Councillor, Republic and Canton of Geneva, Health and Mobility Department) visited Portugal to exchange with the Portuguese Association for Hospital Development (APDH), led by APDH President, Prof. Carlos Pereira Alves.
Prof. Alves and Dr Júlio Pedro, Deputy Director General of Health, received the Geneva delegation, made up of Pierre Maudet, Robert Mardini (Director General, University Hospital of Geneva), Panteleimon Giannakopoulos (Director General, Health Office), Antoine Geissbuhler (Chief of the e-health and telemedicine service, University Hospital of Geneva) and Cédric Alber (Director of communication, Health Office).
During the meeting, Prof. Alves presented the APDH and its activities, highlighting the association’s ability to bring together members of the public and private sectors. Topics such as the current health situation in Portugal, recent changes in the health system and the impact on the provision of care were also discussed. In addition, issues such as the ageing population, the qualification of human resources, home hospitalization and teleconsultation were addressed. Dr Júlio Pedro reinforced the integrated care strategy and the focus on digital to improve service provision.
