Prof. Idris Guessous
Head of the Division of Primary Care medicine and Center of Innovation
Idris Guessous obtained his medical degree in Lausanne in 2001, then trained in clinics and epidemiology. After an MD and a specialisation in general internal medicine in Lausanne and Geneva, he obtained a PhD in epidemiology at Emory University. He joined the HUG in 2009 as Clinical Associate and Head of the Population Epidemiology Unit, working on the genetic and environmental determinants of health. In 2018, he became head of the Division of Primary Care Medicine. Guessous conducts and participates in a number of national and international population-based studies. He is the co-founder of the GIRAPH (geographic information for research and analysis in public health) research group, which integrates spatial analysis into the field of medicine and population health. He is behind a number of university hospital projects, including Pro-HUG, @choum, SeroCov, SPECCHIO, RAFAEL, and confiance. He was the principal investigator of the European multi-centre clinical trial GNC-501, which aims to evaluate the efficacy of a treatment for people affected by post-COVID-19 syndrome. He is a member of the executive committee of the Swiss Society of General Internal Medicine. He was appointed full professor in 2023 and vice-dean of the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine and head of the HUG innovation center.
Mr Bertrand Levrat

Mr Bertrand Levrat was an IHF Governing Council Member for three years before becoming an Honorary IHF Member in 2024 in recognition of his significant contribution to the IHF and Geneva Sustainability Centre.
As a Governing Council member, Bertrand Levrat was the Director-General of the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG), the largest university hospital in Switzerland.
A barrister by training, Mr. Levrat started his career on humanitarian assignments with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He then served as ICRC’s representative at the United Nations in New York.
After returning to Switzerland, he became Deputy Director of the Geneva state social services before becoming Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice Général, which is in charge of social welfare and asylum seekers in Geneva.
In addition to his current position, he serves as President of the University Medicine Association (UNIMED) and is a board member of several foundations focusing on health and medical research as well as innovative approaches and technologies in healthcare.
Since June 2024, he is the Group Chief Operating Officer of Mediclinic.

Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, is a world-renowned patient safety champion, innovator, critical care physician, prolific researcher (publishing over 800 peer-reviewed publications), entrepreneur, and global thought leader, informing US and global health policy. His scientific work leveraging checklists to reduce catheter-related bloodstream infections has saved thousands of lives and earned him high-profile accolades, including being named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine, receiving a coveted MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” in 2008.
Dr. Pronovost currently serves as the Chief Quality & Clinical Transformation Officer for University Hospitals, a comprehensive health system with a national reputation for providing world class healthcare, research and education. Headquartered in Cleveland, University Hospitals has annual revenues of $4.4 billion, 20 hospitals, more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices located throughout 16 counties.
Dr. Pronovost earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed his anesthesiology and critical care medicine residency as well as a fellowship in critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He earned his PhD in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Ms Sara Siegel
Global Head of Healthcare,
Sara is Deloitte’s Global Health Sector Leader and leads the health practice in the UK. This encapsulates the firm’s work with the payor and provider systems both publicly and privately funded. Sara’s passion for health began when she moved to the UK in 2003 and was first exposed to the NHS.
Sara believes passionately in the mission of the NHS and sees the incredible value that a health service free at the point of need provides to society. With her teams, she supports the NHS to do more and better with the resources at its disposal. Some of Sara’s work includes supporting the government on its Coronavirus testing programme, and the introduction of robotic and cognitive automation to improve the speed and quality of NHS services and to release more time for direct patient care. It is the introduction and uptake of new innovative practices either pioneered by individuals or tested first in other health systems around the world that Sara most enjoys working with her NHS clients on.
In her global role, Sara is growing the firm’s presence in implementation of Electronic Health Records, and increasing the presence of AI and Generative AI in the firm’s work. She is also focused on health equity and sustainability and climate.
Sara is a trustee of the Peter Sowerby Foundation which supports healthcare causes and she is a trustee of the Conservation Collective, an environmental charity that promotes local teams working to solve environmental problems.
