Carsten obtained an MSc in physics and chemistry and an MD from the University of Copenhagen and subsequently earned board certification in anaesthesiology. After a 22 year hospital career, he joined IKAS, The Danish Institute for Quality and Accreditation in Healthcare, where he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive 2010. IKAS developed, implemented and managed the national Danish accreditation programme.
In 2021, he joined ISQua and ISQua EEA as CEO. He has taken a special interest in developing and growing ISQua’s education programme, the ISQua Fellowship, and the International Accreditation Programme, accrediting the accreditors.
His relationship with ISQua is long-standing: He has been a member of ISQua’s Accreditation Council 2010-21, ISQua Expert since 2013, and a member of the ISQua Academy of Quality and Safety in Health Care since 2019.
He is especially interested in addressing quality and safety issues through a systems lens, acknowledging that healthcare is a highly complex system.
