Helen Crisp

Helen is an experienced manager, trainer, writer and editor with over 30 years’ experience in the health and social care sector. In April 2017, she set up her own company to enable her to work more flexibly and get more involved with improvement work in healthcare. Recent projects include review of a national Mental Health Safety Improvement Programme, developing materials to support healthcare accreditation in Romania and two learning reports to draw out the lessons from work to scale up successful QI approaches. Prior to working freelance, she spent 8 years as Assistant Director of Research at the Health Foundation. Helen led the development of the Improvement Science programme, with a deep interest in better understanding what works to improve quality of healthcare and crucially how it works. Helen is also a Trustee of the PROMPT Maternity Foundation which trains multi-professional maternity team in patient safety, to reduce harm to mothers and babies.  As editor of BMJ Open Quality, Helen encourages better write-ups of improvement work and dissemination of the learning. She aims to making connections between projects, linking them to useful research, connecting people working in the same field, and those from different fields to make productive connections.
