Solution proposed
They implemented an integrated model consisting of multiple innovations into a single low-carbon healthcare delivery system. It allowed for AI-enabled forecasting to identify patients suitable for virtual consultations, and a digital twin and sustainability analytics for monitoring environmental performance alongside carbon footprint monitoring and reporting. Furthermore, electronic prescribing and virtual physician consultations were integrated as well as automated SMS-based patient communication.
In terms of pharmaceutical management, virtual pharmacy consultations and medication refill workflows in parallel with home medication delivery services. Rather than implementing telemedicine as a standalone service, Fujairah Hospital created an integrated care pathway that simultaneously improves environmental performance, healthcare accessibility, and service resilience. This seamless digital care pathway enables patients to receive consultations, prescriptions, counseling, and medications without physically attending the hospital whenever clinically appropriate.
The initiative was designed to reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions, improve healthcare access for vulnerable populations, enhance climate resilience, and optimize healthcare resource utilization.
