Taiwan Hospital Association and Geneva Sustainability Centre collaborate to advance healthcare sustainability

Date:  12 October 2026

On Tuesday 20 October 2026, the IHF’s Geneva Sustainability Centre (GSC) signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the Taiwan Hospital Association (THA). Their collaboration will focus on executive leadership development and strategic planning to advance healthcare sustainability and address climate change.

The memorandum signifies that THA and the GSC recognize the role of leaders in hospitals and healthcare delivery facilities to take action for healthcare sustainability that will support the health and quality of life for the people of Taiwan today and in the future. The GSC team will provide expertise to support THA’s sustainability strategy for hospitals in its membership, including executive masterclasses and wider workforce training programmes, the possibility for hospitals to subscribe to the GSC’s Sustainability Accelerator Tool (for maturity assessment, progress tracking, and global benchmarking), and supporting hospitals to prepare for international JCI–GSC Healthcare Sustainability Certification.

The memorandum was signed by Dr Henry Gallardo, President of IHF, and Dr Fei-Peng Lee, President of THA, and witnessed by Ronald Lavater, CEO of the IHF, and Dr Chin-Feng Lin, CEO of the Hospital and Social Welfare Organizations Administration Commission (Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan).

At the ceremony, Dr Fei-Peng Lee said:

“On behalf of Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, we are honoured to partner with the IHF to advance sustainable healthcare and green hospital initiatives, marking a new chapter in international collaboration for a healthier and more sustainable future.”

Speaking after the event, Dr Henry Gallardo stated:

“Taiwan’s healthcare leaders have demonstrated leadership and forward-thinking to achieve climate resilient and sustainable healthcare. The IHF and Geneva Sustainability Centre are delighted to support plans for accelerating adoption of sustainability strategies at the hospital and system level for the benefit of patients, public and planet.”

The activities designed and delivered by the GSC and THA will aid Taiwan in achieving its sustainability targets, equipping leaders in the healthcare sector with key information and tools to plan, assess, and address the necessary organizational changes.
